The Past

Experience shows that new breeders that do not have a background in horse breeding have great interest in the beginning, the discovery phase, the first purchases and the first products. There comes a distinguished individual, a good placement in an important show, a good sale and everything helps to keep the enthusiasm going for several years.

That’s what happened in 1991 when the father of the then 14-year-old Thiago Pontes decided to buy some Arabian horses for the recently acquired rural property Haras Wanu, in the city of Porto Feliz, in the State of São Paulo (Brazil).

The mares chosen for the first foal crop were daughters of El Shaklan, Hal Gibby, Prichal, Muscat and AN Malik. The farm quickly bred its first outstanding horse, the beautiful HW Egyptian Art (El Shaklan x Hal Sheena, by Hal Gibby), which became Brazilian National Reserve Champion Mare, was exported to the United States and later taken to the United Arab Emirates, where she is well known still to this day. Two other examples of winning horses are the Brazilian National Reserve Champion Mare NNL Scandal Nashana (Khadraj NA x Jur Natasha by AF Festival), exported to the United States, and Brazilian National Champion Stallion Dyorchall HCF (Don El Chall x Dyorah HCF by NV Sure Fire), sold to Europe.

The Present

After that exciting start of five years, Thiago, his father and his two brothers decided to follow different paths, momentarily leaving the breeding of Arabians aside. After completing his studies and graduating in Business Administration, Thiago married Kamilla in 2001 and dedicated himself to his work in international trade, but he never abandoned the idea of having his own horses again one day. “I had a relatively long period of time – more than 20 years -, until I restarted, however I never let go of the idea that one day I would come back”, recalls Thiago. “And now I am sharing the pleasure of breeding with my wife and our two sons, Nicholas and Matheus”.

The return took place in 2020, taking advantage of the fact that excellent mares were available on the market. The first choice was the typey Valentina HBNS, a beautiful grey that confirmed once and for all that the breeding program was re-established, now under the name of TP Arabians. Valentina is a granddaughter of FA El Shawan, through her father Pantheon MENS, who we ended up buying too, as this lineage has achieved great results all over the world. “In addition to FA El Shawan that is present in most of the current group of horses, I really like the blood of Ali Jamaal, El Shaklan, El Jahez WH, Marwan Al Shaqab, RFI Maktub, WH Justice, Shael Dream Desert, among others”, completes Thiago.

The new facility opened in early 2023 and is located at a 40-minute drive from the Brazilian National show ground and is only 90 minutes away from the city of São Paulo.

The Future

In addition to Pantheon, two other stallions were chosen for our first generations: the grey Jytan Meia Lua (El Jahez WH x Jyvara El Maktub by RFI Maktub), one of the last colts bred by the late Lenita Perroy, and a future promise, the 2022 Scottsdale Yearling Champion Maxmillion NA (Dominic M x Makala NA by Ever After NA), bred by North Arabians and acquired prior to this achievement.

Jytan already has his first offspring born at our farm, besides those born for other breeders that even won titles at the 2022 Brazilian Nationals. In addition to our stallions, we are using imported frozen semen to diversify our program.

“Today our group is formed by 25 mares. I selected what we can call an international type to produce individuals with great demand in all current markets on different continents”, explains Thiago. “Although the breeding program is entirely aimed at family leisure, enjoying our horses and living with them without worrying about the market, we have to keep this all sustainable and seek to produce the highest quality possible and make it accessible to other breeders and friends.”
